Isabel and the Invisible World by Alan Lightman

Isabel and the Invisible World is a picture book about a little girl who wants to see invisible things for her birthday. She wants nothing else than to see the invisible. Her mom eventually gives her the perfect gift. This book is published by Candlewick Press and is written by Alan Lightman and illustrated by Ramona Kaulitzki.

The illustrations are a perfect match for the book and really draw you in. Even I loved following the book to see Isabel’s birthday preparations. The book features a mixed race family, a woman scientist and an independent girl character. All of these just make the story even better and more inclusive.

I don’t want to ruin the story but I do feel I need to say that the theme of the story is light. So this will be the perfect story to read during our light themed science class in December. You could absolutely read this book just for fun though, it doesn’t have to be during a specific learning theme. The back of the book contains a little sidebar about the invisible world.

You can buy Isabel and the Invisible World at Amazon.com and help support the blog.
