If I Had a Gryphon

The book starts with a girl who has a hamster but wishes she had a mythical beast for a pet instead.

She goes through all the possibilities, thinking it would be awesome (If I had a gryphon, I’d love each flashing feather) but then realizes it might be harder than it sounds at first (But she needs flying EVERY day, regardless of the weather.)

Many mythical beasts are imagined include unicorns, mermaids, hippogriffs, manticore, sasquatch, kracken, dragon etc. Each page has a rhyme (like above with feather and weather) which I personally find always makes a child’s book flow better.

Tundra books has a study guide if you want to read the book with a class or as a homeschool and do some more learning.

The illustrations are beautiful and very colourful. I’d love to read more by the illustrator Cale Atkinson.
