For National Love Your Pet Day (February 20) we tried out some CBD Products for Pets from Extract Labs. First meet my dogs Kratos and Nova. Nova is the puppy on the left. Yes she’s a puppy and yes she’s big. She’s not even a year yet and she’s over 70lbs now. Kratos has been around on this blog for years and is 15 now. The kid is my youngest daughter Aria.

So what did we try? We tried three products: Digestive Pumpkin Soft Chews, Calming Hemp Tincture and Hip & Joint Collagen Soft Chews.
We decided the Digestive Pumpkin Soft Chews were for Nova as she eats things she’s not supposed to so perhaps it will help. Or at least it will help with regular digestion issues. The Hip & Joint Collagen Soft Chews we gave to Kratos as he is very old for his size and has hip and joint issues. The Calming Hemp Tincture is for both as they both sometimes need a little help in that regard. Nova because she’s a hyperactive puppy and Kratos because he gets restless at night in his old age.
We haven’t been using them for too long so I can’t comment on if they make a difference in the long run but here’s our first thoughts.
Soft Chews (both kinds)
- They don’t smell horrible like some treats and the peanut butter flavoured one even smells good to me.
- They are super soft which is great for dogs with teeth issues like our Kratos.
- Our dogs like playing with them before eating them but they do that with everything. It was nice that it didn’t break into a million pieces when they threw it though.
- They remind us of caramel squares. That’s what they look like (image below.)
- 30 chews per jar but isn’t necessarily a month:
- Hip& Joint – only the bigger dogs take a whole treat so a smaller dog can last more than a month.
- Digestive – bigger dogs need more than one so may last less than a month.
- The price is higher than average but 10% of profits donated to College of Veterinary Medicine and Biomedical Sciences at Colorado State University
- 10 mg of CBD per chew for both kinds
Calming Hemp Tincture
- 1000MG CBD per bottle.

- How much is given depends on weight of pet. 0.25ml to 1ml
- Can be given up to twice daily, during or after mealtime
- My pets didn’t necessarily LOVE the taste but didn’t hate it. I think they were just not sure of being squirted into their mouth. They DO sell bites instead if you wish.
