Kids With Anxiety
There are a lot of kids with anxiety right now, especially with a pandemic going on. If your child is really suffering, please make an appointment with your doctor. In the meantime, trying these cards might help.
Little Renegades Mindful Kids Cards
These cards contain “everyday exercises to help little ones find stillness, confidence, and joy in the present moment.” They are designed to be used with kids but the box says ages 3 to 103. Adults certainly could use them.
Each card has a cute picture on the front of an animal or nature item. For example pig nose, still owl, paw prints, trunk or tail, thankful sun and fearless feather. On the back of the card is an exercise, guiding questions and the purpose.
The exercise can be done with your child if they are younger or by your child if they are older. Guiding questions are to help your child think about the exercise. The purpose is more for the adult or older child.
I love that older children can learn to use the cards on their own. If your child regularly explodes in anger, you might want to designate a small corner as peace corner. This is for anxiety as well. Add a blanket and comfy pillows and these cards. Teach your child to use the corner to calm down with the cards.
There is also a Little Renegades Mindful Kids Bedtime version. It has “guided meditations and peaceful prompts to ease little ones into dreamland.” Try Rainbow Eyes, Sleepy Blue Ocean, Forest Family or Melting Lava.
