Twas the night before Christmas and all through the house, not a creature was stirring not even a mouse…. The original version of this story is well known by those who celebrate Christmas. We read the story to my kid’s every Christmas Eve as part of our tradition to help wind down the excitement so they can sleep.
Sourcebooks now has a Sesame Street version that is actually quite well written. I often think of preschoolers when I think of Sesame Street but this book is enjoyable even by me and my older kids. Sourcebooks sent me a copy to test out with my family.
A Variation on a Classic – Twas the Night Before Christmas
Sometimes when you see a variation on a classic, whether it be a book or a movie, you can be disappointed. This version has just the right amount of change that it’s not too different from the original but not too obviously the same either.
“Twas the night before Christmas, when all through the house not a creature was stirring, not even a Grouch.”
The book is just as good as the Halloween version that came out earlier this year. The illustrations are very cute and colourful, not babyish like the older sesame street books I remember reading as a child.
“Cookie Monster was nestled all snug in his bed, while visions of cookies danced in his head.”
The book is all about Cookie Monster eating the cookies left out for Santa and quickly making some more so Santa won’t be disappointed. Cookie Monster’s recipe is included in the back of the book if you want to make them with your kids when you are done.
- The book (generic or personalized) can be bought through the publisher Sourcebooks or through Amazon.com, Amazon.ca or your local book retailer. (some links are affiliate links) The prices are different depending on where you purchase but you are looking at around $10 which is a great price.
Sourcebooks is allowing me to giveaway two books to one lucky winner in Canada or the US. The winner will receive the generic Santa is Coming to My House book and Twas the Night Before Christmas on Sesame Street. This giveaway is on both posts but is the same giveaway so you can only enter once.
