We love our Netflix subscription because we have access to older shows and movies that I may have forgotten about because I haven’t seen them in so long or maybe I just never got around to watching them.
In the last few months we have been showing our children some old favourites of ours. My husband showed them Spiderman and Batman cartoons from when he was a kid and I showed them what My Little Pony and Care bears looked like when I was young. What a change from the current versions!
Watching Netflix Together
This month, we sat down to watch Honey, I Shrunk the Kids together, one of my favourite movies as a child. It came out when I was only 6 years old. I remember watching it many times over my childhood.
Netflix has lots of older titles available.
For the Older Kids and Teens
For the Younger Ones
When trying to decide which shows and movies are suitable for my children, I like that I can look at the Netflix website, even if I am going to stream the show on a different device and check out the ratings.
For example the Honey, I Shrunk the Kids movie shows this:
This looks conflicting but remember that PG just means a parent should decide if the show is okay for her children, it doesn’t mean it’s not suitable. My kids are 7 and 8 and they did just fine. You could always watch the show yourself first (even if you saw it years ago, as you probably don’t remember every detail.)
Yes that’s me in 1992 as a Brownie.
I’d love to hear your suggestions for a movie or TV show from 1990 or earlier that I should watch with my 7 and 8 year old.
Disclosure: As a member of the Netflix Canada #StreamTeam I get certain perks. All opinions are mine.
