I recently got the chance to check out three Christian faith art journals and I’m going to share them with you here. They are by Ellie Claire Gifts.

Ellie Claire Art Journals

There are three journals I got to preview. I’ll go over each one. Please note you will find two versions of the word colour in this review. If it’s in the book title its spelled the US way “color” and when I say it it’s spelled the Canadian way “colour”. Sorry for any confusion.

The Illustrated Word: An Illuminated Bible Coloring Journal

Overview: Create your own masterpiece with this journal that has forty glorious illustrations from ancient manuscripts that have been recreated as line drawings. Just as medieval monks brought Scripture to life through intricate inked illustrations in handwritten manuscripts hundreds of years ago, you can now create your own stunning keepsake that will be treasured for years to come.

Thoughts: This journal is for those who like to colour and write in the same journal. It’s a beautiful hard cover journal that mixes colouring pages with lined paper. The colouring pages are of the adult colouring variety in that they are intricate designs. Some of the colouring pages have scripture in them and some are just pictures.

The lined pages each have full-colour illustrations from the archives of the Museum of the Bible somewhere on them and some of those have a small line of text at the bottom explaining what book or year it’s from. The pages are thick so your markers shouldn’t run through which is a relief. Also because it’s a hardcover, you could colour on your lap and you’d have a hard enough background for the paper.

Faith & Lettering Journal

Overview: New from professional letterer Krystal Whitten! With guides, instructions, and tutorials, this is a fun and inspiring way to create beauty with words. It is the perfect place for journalers to practice Bible journaling, lettering quotes and verses, or decorating a page with original thoughts and plans. Exploring your God-given creativity has never been so rewarding.

Thoughts: This is the perfect journal for the bible journaling friend (or you!) You’ll find bible journaling quotes that you can look at, then trace and then practice for yourself. Once you’ve got it down pat and looking good, you can choose to draw it again in your actual journaling bible. That way you don’t make a mistake in your bible.

There is also lettering sections where the whole alphabet is shown in a nice font and you can practice making each letter. The lettering sections (throughout the book) are on grid paper so you can practice making your letters straight. There are also lined papers with huge margins so you can practice making your own ideas before actually making it in your bible. There is even sections to practice arrows, containers,flourishes and banners.  Some pages have grid paper, some have lines and some have dots (like a bullet journal.) It’s the perfect practice book for bible journalers.

Illuminate Your Story Journal

Overview: Use this almost-lost art of illuminating letters to enhance your writing, Bible journaling, or sermon note-taking. Rich illustrated manuscripts in the Museum of the Bible’s collection inspired these gorgeous letters. Easy to follow instructions, practice pages, and encouragements guide you through the creation of amazing start letters, flourishes, and more.

Thoughts: This beautiful journal is hardcover with a fabric binding. It also includes an elastic band that you can use to keep the journal closed. This journal is for fans of fancy handwriting. It introduces you to a letter in a fancy font and shows you how to go from drawing the basic letter shape to adding flourishes and details. Then it lets you create your own.

I don’t just mean a script font. I’m talking letters that includes animals, plants and more in them. There are also lined portions with quotes that you can use to write something down, using your fancy fonts for paragraph starters if you want. Any fan of writing will love this journal. It also includes a ribbon bookmark and a pocket in the back for keepsakes.
