Is Dandruff Hereditary?
Although dandruff is not considered hereditary, in our family, it certainly seems like it is.
I’ve always had dandruff and so have my parents. So growing up we used Head & Shoulders. Sure we tried other shampoos but none of them did the trick quite like Head & Shoulders. When I was dating my husband, I found out he uses Head & Shoulders too because he suffers from severe dandruff to the point of a red sore head when it’s not used regularly. His family found Head & Shoulders to be the only shampoo that worked for them as well.
Then we had children. All our children suffered from cradle cap which is actually related to dandruff. It’s supposed to clear up by 3 but my 4 year old still has a little of it. Some children had it worse than others. All of my children who have grown out of cradle cap ended up having dandruff. My eldest daughter has it the worst but they all have it.
That’s three generations from two families that suffer from dandruff. Is it just that common or maybe there is a hereditary component that just hasn’t been discovered.
