Opposites Attract

Match light lipstick shades with darker makeup and dark lipstick shades with lighter makeup. Darker makeup draws attention to that part of your face. Pick your eyes OR lips to draw attention too, not both. Play up your best feature. If you like your eyes better, use darker eye makeup and lighter lipstick. If you prefer your lips, use darker lipstick and lighter eye makeup.

Yellow Teeth

If you have yellowed teeth you will want to lean towards shades with blue undertones such as pink, purple, violet or wine. These will downplay the yellowness of your teeth. Whatever you choose, stay FAR away from oranges and browns. They will make your teeth look even more yellow.

Red Lipstick

Every woman can wear red lipstick but not always the same shade. In general, those with pink skin should use something like a cherry red while those with darker skin should go with deep reds. The trick is to match the undertones of your skin colour.

Thin Lips

Lips thin with age and anyone with thin lips will want to watch out for gloss or matte colours, especially dark shades. If you have thin lips, stick with creamy lipsticks in lighter shades for the best look.

Keep it Natural

Makeup is supposed to accentuate your features, not make you look like someone you are not. Keep a natural look by using shades that are closer to your features. Lighter skin should used lighter colours. Darker skin should use darker colours. This is a general guidelines of course and you should keep your hair and eye colour in mind too. Light skin with dark hair and eyes will look more natural with medium shades versus light skin with light hair and eyes.

Fullness

Those with full lips may want to use deep matte colours to accentuate their fullness without overpowering the rest of the face. Gloss and bright colours will make them look bigger. By the same token, if you want your lips to look more full, go with lighter colours with some gloss.

Make Use of Liner

No matter what colour lipstick you choose, always make sure any lip liner you use matches your lipstick. Also consider filling your lips in first with your lip liner and then applying your lipstick as this will make the colour last longer.
