Summary:

A review of Madly Madagascar, a Valentine's Day Special with all your favourite Madagascar characters plus two animated shorts in the special features.

madly-madagascar-dvdJust in time for Valentine’s Day, your favourite Madagascar characters have gotten together for a special Valentine’s Day special, Madly Madagascar.

“Your favorite Madagascar pals are back in an all-new adventure! Alex’s favorite holiday, Valentine’s Day, brings hilarious surprises and excitement for the entire gang. Melman plans a big surprise for Gloria, Marty tries to impress a new friend and everyone wants to get their hands on King Julien’s love potion. You’ll fall in LOVE with Madly Madagascar!”

Madly Madagascar is a Fun Family Film

At first the movie seems like it’s all over the place and it basically is as there are multiple mini plots going on at the same time. However since they are fairly simple plots and it’s a short movie (22 minutes long) after the first few minutes, it is easy to keep the plots separate and switch from one to the other.

It seems Madagascar is trying to compete with Shrek for making holiday themed mini movies but that’s okay with me, I enjoy them! I went from laughter with the Marty plot, to an “awwww” feeling with Melman to playful eye rolling at King Julien.

Special Features

The DVD also comes with two animated shorts in the special features.

First Flight – this short was wonderful. The whole family loved it. It’s the story of a baby bird that falls out of a tree next to a man and how he decides what to do with the bird and ends up trying to teach it to fly. It’s very powerful, moving and sweet, all wrapped up together.

Hammy’s Boomerang Adventure – Hammy is the rapid talking/moving squirrel from Over the Hedge. In this short, Hammy is being videotaped as he interacts with boomerangs and it’s quite funny.  We were giggling for sure.
