My Little Pony Equestria Girls Rainbow Rocks

Spread the love

My daughters and I got the chance to go see the new My Little Pony Equestria Girls Rainbow Rocks movie at the theater this past weekend. In this sequel to the first Equestria Girls movie, Twilight Sparkle comes back to the alternative reality to help them defeat a new threat to the school.

Preliminary Thoughts on Equestria Girls Rainbow Rocks

I wasn’t sure if this would be one of those sequels that was a great continuation of the story, or if it would be one of those ones you could just shouldn’t have been made. I’m happy to report it was the former. The story takes place probably a few months later when the school is back to normal and Sunset Shimmer is trying to make a place for herself in the school and learn about friendship. It’s hard to make friends after everything she put the school through but she’s trying. There’s magic and friendship and a battle of the bands!

MLP for Older Kids

The theater was packed with little girls and their parents. I wonder if any other parents that were there were secretly just as excited to watch the movie as their kids or if it was just me. One thing I noticed though was that there were a lot of 3-5 year olds and the Equestria Girls movies really aren’t for that age. While the regular My Little Pony: Friendship is Magic is great for that age, the Equestria Girls spinoff is really more of a 6+ version. The girls are in high school after all and with that comes crushes, cliques and bullying. Common Sense Media agrees with me, rating it for 6+.

Funny and Great Songs

Equestria Girls Rainbow Rocks was definitely a My Little Pony movie. It had the usual humour and great songs. I loved seeing the Friendship is Magic characters that we hadn’t seen in the Equestria Girls realm before. They were perfectly executed, right down to their personality and how they would act. We get to see a few seconds of Big Mac and Granny Smith for example. I wasn’t the only adult laughing at the movie!

Here is a clip from the movie when the three new girls are influencing the students to fight amongst themselves (with some Pinkie humour.)

We will definitely be getting a copy of this when it comes out to go beside the first Equestria Girls movie. It was a great movie for older My Little Pony fans.

Disclosure: I received complimentary tickets to see the movie in exchange for a post after the show. All opinions are honest.
